How to create and submit a draft order in Shopify?
If a customer wants to exchange an item from an order that has already been processed in Shopify, you will need to create a draft order instead of modifying the original order. Follow these steps to create and submit the draft order correctly:
Create a Draft Order
- Log in to your Shopify admin panel.
- Navigate to Orders in the left-hand menu.
- Click on Create order in the upper right corner.
- In the draft order page, search for and add the items the customer wants in exchange.
Add the Customer’s Information
- Click on Browse customers to select the existing customer or manually enter their information.
Ensure the shipping address is correctly entered, as this is necessary for Mothership to process the order.
Adjust Pricing (If Payment Exists on the Previous Order)
- If the payment for the original order is still valid, adjust the line item prices to $0.00 by creating a discount to reflect an even exchange. You can do this by either clicking on the price in the product section or adding a discount in the payment section.
- If you want to waive shipping charges, click Add shipping and set the cost to $0.00.
Mark the Order as Paid
- Click Collect payment and select Mark as paid to finalize the exchange.
- Once the order is marked as paid, Shopify will register it as a completed transaction.
Submit the Order
- Click Save to finalize the draft order.
- Click Create order to submit it.
- Mothership will now recognize the order and process the exchange as a new fulfillment request.
Additional step:
If you have set up the Mothership-Shopify connection to manually submit orders to Mothership, please remember to click on the request fulfillment button.
